Phil Ramone

Phil Ramone is one of the most respected and prolific music producers in the recording industry.

With nine Grammy Awards and an Emmy to his credit, Ramone’s musical acumen and his use of audio technology are unmatched among his peers. He played an integral role in pioneering many of the technological developments in the music industry over the years. He ardently supported the use of the compact disc. Appropriately, the first CD ever pressed, Billy Joel’s “The Stranger,” was a Phil Ramone production as was the first pop DVD release, “Dave Grusin Presents West Side Story.” His use of a fiber optics system (EDNet) to record tracks in "real time" from different locations for Frank Sinatra's “Duets I & II” was a groundbreaking achievement.

Ramone's skills make him invaluable to the artists with whom he works. Rather than bring a “signature style” to a project, Ramone strives for artistic integrity and individuality. His impeccable list of credits includes collaborations with such diverse artists as: Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Tony Bennett, Bono, Ray Charles, Chicago, Natalie Cole, John Coltrane, Bob Dylan, Gloria Estefan, Renee Fleming, Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel, Elton John, Quincy Jones, BB King, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Liza Minnelli, Sinead O’Connor, Luciano Pavarotti, Peter/Paul and Mary, Andre Previn, Carly Simon, Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra, Phoebe Snow, Rod Stewart, Rolling Stones, Barbra Streisand, and James Taylor.

Ramone has long been recognized for the diversity of his work. Recent projects as music producer include: 2003 Grammy winner, “Playin’ With My Friends: Tony Bennett Sings The Blues,” Rod Stewart’s “It Had To Be You “The Great American Songbook,” Liza Minnelli’s “Liza’s Back,” Renee Fleming and Bryn Terfel’s duet album, “Under the Stars,” tenor heartthrob Michael Amante’s second album (with Ramone as producer), jazz sensation Peter Cincotti’s debut album, and a surround sound remix of Bob Dylan’s classic “Blood On The Tracks.

Ramone has numerous film, theater, concert, and television productions to his credit including: A Star Is Born, Flashdance, Ghostbusters, Promises Promises, Passion, Simon and Garfunkel: The Concert In Central Park,Liza with a “Z”, VH1/BBC Queens Jubilee Party at the Palace and The Songwriter’s Hall of Fame Awards. As the creator and executive producer of the television series, The Score, he brings together composers and the film directors with whom they have collaborated.

Ramone is active in music and service related organizations and serves on the boards of NARAS, the MusiCares Foundation, The National Academy of Popular Music, and the National Mentoring Partnership among others.
