Born Wilfred Thoedore Weymes in 1897, Ted Weems became the leader of the popular Chicago-based dance band which helped launch Perry Como’s career.
For two decades, Weems and his orchestra were a fixture on the pop charts with over 35 hit recordings including ‘Somebody Stole My Gal’ (#1, 1924), ‘The Man From the South’ (#1, 1930, vocals by Art Jarrett and Parker Gibbs), ‘Heartaches’ (#1, 1947), “I Wonder Who’s Kissing Her Now” (#2, 1947, vocal by Perry Como).
Ted Weems died on February 7, 1969.
