R&B vocal group, the 5th Dimension, was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1966 with original members Marilyn McCoo, Billy Davis, Jr., Florence LaRue, Lamont McLemore and Ron Townson.
In total the group had 30 hit recordings on the pop charts and 17 top twenty R&B hits. In 1967, they recorded their first top ten hit, “Up-Up and Away” and followed up with 1968’s “Stoned Soul Picnic” which went to #3 on the pop charts and #2 on R&B.
Throughout the late 60’s and early 70’s, 5th Dimension was a Billboard staple with the top ten recordings of ‘Aquarius/Let The Sunshine,” Wedding Bell Blues, “One Less Bell to Answer,” “(Last Night) I Didn’t Get to Sleep At All” and “If I Could Reach You.”
