Composer Vincent Rose was born in Palermo, Italy on June 13, 1880.

At the age of 17, he moved to the United States but returned to Palermo on scholarship at the Palermo School of Music. While in school, he studied the violin and piano with legendary instructor Liberati.

Back the US, Rose’s early career was as a violinist and pianist in dance orchestras. He spent time with orchestras in both Chicago and Los Angeles as the music director and finally formed his own orchestra in 1906.

Collaborating with lyricists such as Larry Stock, Jack Meskill, Al Lewis, Ray Klages, James Cavanaugh and B.G. DeSylva, Rose’s catalog includes such hits as “Whispering”, “Linger Awhile”, “Love Tales”, “May Time, “Were You Sincere?”, “Kiss by Kiss”, “Tonight or Never”, “The Umbrella Man”, “Blueberry Hill”, “The American Prayer”, “Raindrop Serenade”, “Pardon My Pretty Baby”, “Pretty Little Busybody”, “Ma-Ma-Maria”, “Slowly but Surely”, “Creaking Old Mill on the Creek” and “Whistling in the Wildwood”.

Vincent Rose died in Rockville, New York on May 20, 1944.
